Hot springs cleanse our bodies and rejuvenate our energy.
Known as the ultimate healing therapy trip in Asia, not just in Japan, hot spring trips are incredibly popular!
Among them is Mebaeso Ryokan in the Yuufu-in hot spring village.
Location of Yufuin Mebaeso Ryokan
It is located 20 minutes south of Yuufuin Station.
There’s a rice field next door, and while some people enjoy walking there, I don’t recommend it for those with low stamina like our family
If you contact the ryokan in advance to arrange a shuttle service, they will pick you up as soon as you call upon arrival. (Contact number: +81977853878)
Check-in/Check-out at Yufuin Mebaeso Ryokan
Check-in time: 3:00 PM
Check-out time: 10:00 AM
A must-visit in Yufuin, Mebaeso Ryokan is unique in that it is a resort-style hot spring ryokan, not a private villa type.
It’s a large resort with multiple rooms inside, almost like a hotel.
The landscaping, lobby, and rooms are all elegantly designed and well-maintained, making our stay incredibly satisfying.
It’s especially suitable for those who dislike bugs and prefer a clean ryokan atmosphere.
Tatami Rooms at Yufuin Mebaeso Ryokan
The rooms are quite spacious.
While the interior decor isn’t much different from other typical ryokans, the bedding was extremely soft and comfortable, ensuring a good night’s sleep even in the colder season.
We were assigned a room on the highest floor, offering a wonderful view of the Yuufuin village.
Private and Public Hot Springs at Yufuin Mebaeso Ryokan
The hot springs here are truly exceptional!
The two private family baths, which can be reserved individually, were great.
According to my wife, the outdoor hot spring in the women’s bath is particularly spacious and offers a great view.
Of the two family baths, the left one is about 1.5 times the size of a private open-air bath, and the right one is about twice as large.
We used the right one and found the view from there to be quite nice as well!
The public bath is quite spacious, with a rock bath style and a comfortable temperature, making it a thoroughly enjoyable experience!
Kaiseki at Yufuin Mebaeso Ryokan
Instead of being served one by one, the kaiseki meal at Mebaeso Ryokan is presented as a large set at the beginning, with additional dishes brought out later.
The sushi, inari sushi, and various seafood dishes were outstanding, but the highlight was the wagyu beef cooked on a personal grill—it melted in the mouth!
The rich flavor of the salmon sashimi and the buttery taste of the amberjack sashimi were exceptional
Mebaeso Ryokan stands out as one of the most impressive ryokans I’ve experienced in the Yuufuin hot spring village.
I hope many others get to share in this wonderful experience.
