Yufuin Baien Ryokan Onsen Hot Spring Dinner & Tatami Condition Review

Hello, this is Male. When talking about the charms of Fukuoka, you can’t leave out the hot springs! Yufuin, which is less than a two-hour bus ride from Fukuoka, is a top destination for enjoying hot springs, regardless of the season.
Today, I’ll be reviewing the highly popular Yufuin Baien Ryokan Onsen.

Location of Yufuin Baien Ryokan

The ryokan is about a 20-minute walk southeast from Yufuin Station.
Since it’s difficult to walk there with suitcases due to the distance and rumpy road conditions, taking a taxi is highly recommended.

The ryokan’s excellent facilities and beautiful surroundings in a forested area, compared to other budget ryokans, make it a very satisfying place to stay.

Address of Yufuin Baien Ryokan

Check-in time: 3:00 PM
Check-out time: 10:30 AM

Unlike typical ryokans in Yufuin, this one has a distinctly modern and sophisticated feel.
From the moment you enter, the ambience and scent are luxurious, making you feel warmly welcomed.

There were English-speaking staffs, and they even helped us carry our luggage to our private villa, which we greatly appreciated.
I understand the entire resort was remodeled not long ago, and the expansive gardens and traditional Japanese tranditional villas scattered throughout the grounds were absolutely beautiful.

Yufuin Baien Ryokan Villa Rooms

The benefits of staying in a private villa are significant!
It feels like a more private space, similar to having an entire pool villa in a Vietnamese luxurious resort.
The living area is spacious, with several tatami mats and a large table in the center.
It was wonderful to enjoy the traditional ryokan atmosphere while sleeping comfortably in a bed.

Private Onsen at Yufuin Baien Ryokan

The in-room bath is a semi-open-air type and spacious enough for up to four people.
Some guests prefer using only the private villa onsen tub without visiting the family or large communal baths.

However, the family baths (reserved baths) here are a must-try!
There are two family baths, and the large communal baths are separated into men’s and women’s sections.

You can enjoy the rock bath style onsen in the open air.
Probably this is why people come to Yufuin—the open-air onsen!
The water makes your skin feel incredibly smooth.
Since the onsen water is continuously flowing, it remains the water clean and clear, free of any floating debris or hair

Breakfast and Kaiseki at Yufuin Baien Ryokan

From 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM, there is a free drink bar inside Yufuin Baien Ryokan where I enjoyed making a lot of highballs.
If you enjoy alcohol, you definitely shouldn’t miss this!

The kaiseki meal felt quite plentiful compared to other onsen ryokans.
The sushi, tempura, and desserts were excellent, and the main course was served as shabu-shabu style, with lots of vegetables and delicious dipping.
The final touch was the yuzu pudding, which was perfectly refreshing.
As expected from one of Yufuin’s most popular ryokans.

Since this ryokan is on the expensive side, booking through a site with high discount rates can save your cost a lot.
I found Agoda had the best prices, so I booked through them.

Here concludes my review of Yufuin Baien Ryokan, where you can experience a truly traditional ryokan stay in Yufuin.
It’s said that the most important criterion for success is how you treat others.
I believe that consideration for others is also crucial when traveling.
I hope your trip to Yufuin is filled with kindness and happiness.
